Roast Leg of Goat

Eid Mubarak! This year, I tried my friend Arshi’s tips and ideas for roasting a goat leg. It was delicious!

2 kilo (4 1/2 pounds) goat leg
8 small potatoes, scrubbed, unpeeled
2 small onions, peeled
1 head garlic, unpeeled
4 large carrots, scrubbed


For the Marinade:

2 cloves garlic, grated
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. paprika
1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper
1 tbsp. lemon/lime juice
1 cup yogurt
Add any herbs that you like, such as dill or mint. Mix up the marinade and rub into the leg pricking it well with a knife so the marinade can soak in. Place it in a greased casserole dish. Put small potatoes, carrots, onions and a whole head of garlic around the leg. Cover tightly with foil and put in the refrigerator for several hours. Bake at 350º for approximately 3 hours (1 1/2 hours per kilo). When nearly done, remove foil to brown slightly. Use the juices to make gravy if desired.

      Please do pass it on! I have friends in America who say they can’t find goat in the store. I guess you have to live in the right town 🙂 But it would work with other types of meat.
